February 26, 2010 - Cincinnati Non-profit Organization Recovers From Major Computer Disaster
"Cincinnati Housing Partners, Inc. recently experienced a nearly disastrous loss, when a computer crashed. The lost data contained 25 years worth of contact information for donors, vendors, customers, as well as several years’ worth of operational documents that had been painstakingly customized, for our purposes. The computer required a complete restore.
Thanks to Boomarang online data backup service we were able to recover every bit of information and go back to business as usual once the programs were reinstalled. It would have been impossible for our staff to recreate 100% of that information, just 50% would have been a lengthy, costly and disappointing use of tightly controlled time and funds.
Additionally, we had another workstation that had been dismantled and the computer had not been in use for over a year. Boomarang’s backup enabled us to start where we left off and get the workstation up and running again. I am the business manager for Zion Global Ministries and before we discovered Boomarang we had a manual tape back up system. Each day tapes had to be changed, rotated, and on some days it was not uncommon to forget to switch the tapes. For a period of about one month a failure occurred in our system and even though we were changing the tapes, there was no data being backed up. We were fortunate that the system did not crash during this period. I hate to think of the data loss and man hours would have been required to reproduce it.
